Tour de France: Chris Froome maintains lead as Edvald Boasson Hagen nabs stage win

Chris Froome maintained his overall lead at the Tour de France while Edvald Boasson Hagen made a late charge to win Stage 19 on Friday.

Froome kept his lead despite crossing the line in Salon-de-Provence over 12 minutes behind Boasson Hagen, who finished the longest stage in five hours, six minutes and nine seconds.

Froome (83 hours, 26 minutes, 55 seconds) holds a 23-second advantage on France's Romain Bardet heading into Saturday's time trial in Marseille. The 32-year-old Englishman is attempting to win a fourth title at the Tour and also leads Columbian Rigoberto Uran by 29 seconds heading into the penultimate stage.

"Certainly at this point it's my race to lose," Froome said. "I have to make sure I do everything right, follow the right processes and hopefully not have the bad day. I've got the legs, and hopefully everything else will be all right."

Boasson Hagen won a stage at the Tour for the third time overall but it was his win since 2011. He was part of a 20-man group and surged ahead to finish in front of Germany's Niklas Arndt and Belgium's Jens Keukeleire.

"I could have waited but I saw that I was also feeling quite good and I felt that I could manage to do one attack and try everything for that." Boasson Hagen said. "I made a big gap and I could cross the line alone. I didn't have to have another photo finish so I'm happy about that."

Despite winning a stage for the first time since wearing a brace while riding for Team Sky, Boasson Hagen is not in the top 10.

The Tour concludes Sunday along the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
