BEDMINSTER, N.J. -- Michelle Wie has withdrawn from the U.S. Women's Open due to neck pain.
Wie withdrew on the 11th hole Friday morning, her second hole of the day, after bogeying the first to fall to 2 over for the tournament at Trump National Golf Club. She shot a 1-over 73 in the first round on Thursday.
Wie, who won the Women's Open in 2014, received a massage to her right shoulder prior to playing the 16th hole late in Thursday's opening round, which was delayed more than two hours by rain due to thunderstorms. She played her last four holes and part of a fifth on Thursday following the delay.
Wie posted on Twitter after withdrawing: "Unfortunately based on the short turnaround from last night's round to this morning, I haven't been able to recover enough to play to my full potential today. I am confident with continued treatment, I will be at 100 percent by the Scottish and British Open."
