NHL Draft: Day 2 highlighted by familiar names

CHICAGO -- Center Skyler Brind'Amour and goaltender Cayden Primeau were among more than a dozen players with NHL bloodlines who were chosen on the second and final day of the draft Saturday afternoon.

Brind'Amour is the son of Rod Brind'Amour, who tallied 1,184 points during a prolific career that included a Stanley Cup championship with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006. The Edmonton Oilers selected the younger Brind'Amour with the 177th pick in the sixth round.

Primeau's father, Keith, and uncle, Wayne, combined for more than 300 goals during their lengthy careers. Cayden Primeau was taken by the Montreal Canadiens in the seventh round (No. 199).

The draft opened with the first round Friday night and concluded with Rounds 2-7 on Saturday. Countries that were most represented in the draft were Canada (77 players), the United States (50), Sweden (27), Finland (23) and Russia (18).

Most trades on day two involved swapping draft picks, but two players were moved.

The Calgary Flames acquired defenseman Travis Hamonic from the New York Islanders for a first-round pick and second-round pick in 2018, plus a second-round pick in 2019 or 2020. Hamonic tallied 146 points (26 goals, 120 assists) and 452 penalty minutes in 444 games with New York.

The Vegas Golden Knights acquired right winger Keegan Kolesar from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a second-round pick Saturday. Kolesar is a 20-year-old prospect who has yet to play in the NHL.
