Jon Jones was stripped of his UFC light heavyweight title on Wednesday after receiving a one-year suspension for testing positive of a banned substance.

Jones, 29, is no longer the interim 205-pound champion, according to UFC president Dana White.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency on Monday suspended Jones for one year because of a failed drug test in June.

"Jon Jones has blown it in every way shape and form a guy with that much talent can blow it," White told ESPN. "Greatest talent ever and the biggest screw-up ever."

In 2015, the UFC stripped Jones (22-1) of the official title after he was arrested on a hit-and-run charge.

"It doesn't make sense," White told ESPN. "He was the interim champion because he should have been fighting for the title (in April). We gave him this, 'You were supposed to fight for the title. Here it is.' It doesn't make sense with all the stuff that is going on for him to still be the interim champion."

Jones was supposed to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 on July 9 but was removed from the event three days prior after testing positive for two banned substances.

The year-long ban is retroactive to his scheduled main-event fight with Cormier, meaning Jones will be eligible to return in July 2017. Jones is already serving a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
