UFC's Jon Jones suspended one year for positive test

Jon Jones, the interim light heavyweight champion of UFC, has been suspended one year by the United States Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for a banned substance before UFC 200 on July 9.

The ban is retroactive to his scheduled main-event fight with Daniel Cormier, meaning he will be eligible to return in July 2017.

Jones' positive test came from a sexual-performance pill, which the USADA said was tainted.

"On the evidence before the Panel, the Applicant is not a drug cheat," a panel of three arbitrators from McLaren Global Sports Solutions wrote in their epilogue, according to MMAFighting.com.

"He did not know that the tablet he took contained prohibited substances or that those substances had the capacity to enhance sporting performance. However by his imprudent use of (the pill) he has not only lost a year of his career but an estimated nine million dollars.

"This outcome which he admits to be a wake-up call for him should serve as a warning to all others who participate in the same sport."

The year-long suspension is the maximum penalty handed out.

Jones is already serving a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
