Detroit Lions defensive end Armonty Bryant has been suspended three games by the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy.

Bryant recently joined the Lions and the team said it was aware he might be facing discipline.

Bryant served a four-game suspension for a similar offense earlier this season when he was employed by the Cleveland Browns. He was released by the Browns when the suspension ended.

The Lions also signed tight end Matthew Mulligan and placed tight end Cole Wick (knee) on injured reserve.

Earlier Tuesday, Detroit acquired cornerback Johnthan Banks from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.
