Grayson Murray bogeyed his first hole in the second round but then reeled off eight birdies to take the lead at the halfway point of the Sanderson Farms Championship on Friday in Jackson, Miss.

The 23-year-old PGA Tour rookie opened a two-shot lead over Greg Owen of England and Seamus Power of Ireland after shooting a 7-under-par 65 for a 36-hole total of 12-under 132 at the Country Club of Jackson.

The 44-year-old Owen posted a second consecutive 67 and Power finished with a 69 to stand together at 10-under 134. Owen is seeking his first career victory on the PGA Tour.

First-round leader Kevin Streelman struggled to a 1-over-73 after opening with a 63 and was tied for eighth at 8-under 136 in a group that include Cody Gribble, whose second-round 63 matched Streelman's first-day score.

Murray finished his round at No. 9 with a short birdie putt on the par-4, 416-yard hole to enter the weekend on top of the leaderboard in his third career PGA Tour event.

"We practice to get in this position," Murray said. "I know I have the game to win a golf tournament."

Murray, who played at four different schools during his college career, knows what he has to do to stay on top -- continue to make birdies.

"There's also some bogeys if you're not in the fairways," he said. "So just keep it in the short grass, give myself as many chances as I have done on the first two days."

Tied for fourth were Lucas Glover (69), Trey Mullinax (70), Graham DeLaet (69) of Canada and Brandon Hagy (68) at 9-under 135.
