Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, who missed much of the second half of the Cardinals' 42-16 loss to Washington State on Saturday, will be re-evaluated during the week.

Coach David Shaw was typically tightlipped about the nature of McCaffrey's ailment, saying only, "McCaffrey did get banged up, but there was no reason to put him in late in the game. We just left him out. We'll see how he is during the course of the week."

McCaffrey headed to the locker room during the third quarter, then came back to the bench but didn't return to action.

The junior was limited eight carries for 35 yards and one reception for 5 yards -- all season lows.

The runner-up to Alabama's Derrick Henry in Heisman Trophy voting last year, McCaffrey was viewed as a front-runner for the award heading into this season. However, the Cardinal's back-to-back losses to Washington and Washington State likely hurt his chances.

In five games, McCaffrey has 99 carries for 520 yards and three touchdowns; 18 receptions for 154 yards and one touchdown; 11 kickoff returns for 251 yards; and two punt returns for 16 yards.
