PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was forced to remove his shoes honoring Muhammad Ali after two offensive series Sunday against the New York Jets.

The NFL's on-site equipment supervisor told Brown to replace the shoes, which apparently had not been approved by the league.

Last week, Brown wore shoes bearing an image of the late golfer Arnold Palmer, a Pittsburgh area native who had died on Sept. 25. Those shoes were approved in advance by the NFL.

Brown was fined $9,000 for wearing unapproved blue shoes during the Steelers' season opener against the Redskins on Sept. 12.

Brown also has been fined twice for end zone celebrations, including a $24,309 penalty for what the NFL said was an explicit dance after the wide receiver scored last week against the Kansas City Chiefs.
