Cooper arrived in New England via an offseason trade in which the Patriots sent defensive end Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals for Cooper and a second-round draft choice.

A foot injury led to the 26-year-old Cooper's fall from being a starter at the outset of training camp. He was removed from the Patriots' injury report this week.

The 6-foot-2, 310-pound Cooper was selected by the Cardinals as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 draft. With the Cardinals, he appeared in 24 games over three seasons, making 11 starts. He missed the 2013 season because of a broken left fibula.
