The Tennessee Titans fired special teams coordinator Bobby April on Monday, one day after the team allowed a 67-yard punt return for the winning touchdown in a 27-20 loss to the Houston Texans.

Titans head coach Mike Mularkey also announced that April would be replaced by special teams assistant Steve Hoffman.

Hoffman is in his 27th season as an NFL coach and has been on Tennessee's coaching staff since 2013. He was the Oakland Raiders' special teams coordinator in 2012 and the Kansas City Chiefs' special teams coordinator from 2009-11.

The Titans and Texans were tied 20-20 on Sunday when Fuller scored on a punt return late in the third quarter at NRG Stadium in Houston.

In addition to giving up the punt return, the Titans were flagged for too many players on the field during a punt return that that allowed the Texans to instead kick a field goal near the end of the first half.

The Titans are ranked 31st in average kick-return allowed (28 yards) and 27th in average punt-return yardage allowed (14.9 yards) through four games this season. The Titans are ranked 11th in average kick return (22.3 yards) and 18th in average punt return (8.6).
