Cornerback Kyle Fuller missed the first three games of the season and the prognosis for his return is not promising, which led the Chicago Bears to place him on injured reserve Tuesday.

Fuller, a first-round pick in 2014 with a history of injuries, had arthroscopic knee surgery and was limited most of the summer. Fuller was not an impact player in his first season in Vic Fangio's defense, which calls for increased man-to-man responsibilities.

"It's real tough," Fuller said of being inactive the first three games of the season. "But you've got to get healthy ... I have to do what my body tells me."

Fuller could be recalled from injured reserve, with rules requiring he miss at least six weeks. He would not be eligible to return for eight games.

Several injuries dented the depth chart of the Bears' defense in recent weeks, including defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, outside linebacker Lamarr Houston and inside linebacker Danny Trevathan. Trevathan is likely to miss a few more games but is not a candidate for injured reserve, head coach John Fox said.
