Third overall pick Joey Bosa's NFL debut won't happen in Week 3.

The San Diego Chargers ruled out their rookie top pick for the third consecutive game because of a hamstring injury, which occurred as Bosa was attempted to get up to speed for Week 1. He reported to camp following a protracted contract holdout.

Darius Philon has been starting at defensive end in Bosa's stead.

San Diego said tight end Antonio Gates (hamstring) is doubtful for Sunday's game at Indianapolis. Offensive guard Orlando Franklin (hamstring) is questionable and participated in the entire practice Friday.

Gates, who has six receptions for 35 yards this season, did not practice Friday.

Rookie tight end Hunter Henry would start in place of Gates. Coach Mike McCoy is high on the club's second-round pick, who has one catch for 20 yards.

"He's a very talented player. There's a reason why we picked him where we did," McCoy said. "He's going to help us win. I think Philip (Rivers) is going to love him."

Safety Jahleel Addae (clavicle) is also out for the Chargers.
