Lawson was among the final cuts of the Buffalo Bills, even though he was expected to start at outside linebacker.

Prior to Lawson's release, the Buffalo News reported he was the subject of an NFL investigation for a possible violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

Lawson said that he was "shocked" to learn of the probe but acknowledged he was charged in a misdemeanor domestic violence incident in 2014. The charges were later dropped.

The 32-year-old Lawson has registered 24.5 sacks in 10 seasons with three teams, including the past three years with Buffalo.

He appeared in 47 of 48 games with the Bills, including all 16 last season, when he notched 47 tackles and one sack.
