The Pittsburgh Pirates shut down injured right-hander Gerrit Cole on Tuesday, one day removed from the ace's disastrous two-inning stint in his return from the disabled list.

Also on Tuesday, the Pirates acquired veteran left-hander Wade LeBlanc from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations or a player to be named. Pittsburgh was not done as it selected left-hander Zach Phillips and catcher Jacob Stallings from Triple-A Indianapolis and placed catchers Chris Stewart and Elias Diaz on the 60-day disabled list with left knee injuries.

Cole was placed on the 60-day disabled list with right elbow posterior inflammation. The 26-year-old had just returned from his second stay on the disabled list and yielded five runs on four hits versus the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cole finished the season with a 7-10 mark and a career-high 3.88 ERA, including a gaudy 8.37 ERA over his last five starts. The top overall pick of the 2011 draft, Cole owns a 47-30 career mark in 94 starts with the Pirates.

LeBlanc was designated for assignment by Seattle on Aug. 25 and sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma on Sept. 4.

The 32-year-old posted a 3-0 mark with one save and a 4.50 ERA in 11 appearances with the Mariners after being acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on June 22.

LeBlanc owns a 24-33 career record with one save and a 4.48 ERA in 118 appearances with San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees and Mariners.

Stallings went 1-for-8 with an RBI double in two games with Pittsburgh in June. The 26-year-old batted .214 with six homers and 28 RBIs in 80 contests with Indianapolis this season.

Phillips, who was acquired from Baltimore on Aug. 31, made two relief appearances with Indianapolis after posting a 9-3 mark with a 4.45 ERA in 49 outings with Norfolk.
