2017 MLB schedule: Draft day, All-Star Game, regular season games

Major League Baseball announced the 2017 regular- season schedule, which will begin on Sunday, April 2, when the Tampa Bay Rays host the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks host the San Francisco Giants.

ESPN will televise each of the games in addition to the "Sunday Night Baseball" Opening Night contest, which will be selected in the coming weeks.

The commissioner's office said Wednesday that 13 games are scheduled on Monday, April 3: Toronto at Baltimore; Pittsburgh at Boston; Philadelphia at Cincinnati; Detroit at the Chicago White Sox; Seattle at Houston; San Diego at the Los Angeles Dodgers; Colorado at Milwaukee; Kansas City at Minnesota; Atlanta at the New York Mets; Los Angeles Angels at Oakland; Chicago Cubs at St. Louis; Cleveland at Texas; Miami at Washington.

Seven games are scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, before all 30 teams take the field the next day.

Opening Day will feature nine divisional matchups among the 13 games, in addition to an Interleague contest between the host Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates in a renewal of the franchises that met in the inaugural 1903 World Series.

Atlanta's opener at the new SunTrust Park will be Friday, April 14 against San Diego. There will be a preview of that 41,000-seat stadium on Friday, March 31, when the Braves host the Yankees in the final game of their spring training schedules.

The final day of the 2017 regular season, featuring 12 divisional games, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1.

Tampa Bay will host the Oakland Athletics in a doubleheader on June 10. It will be MLB's first scheduled doubleheader since July 16, 2011, when the A's hosted the Angels.

Other important dates next season include Jackie Robinson Day on Saturday, April 15, and the first day of the 2017 major league draft on Monday, June 12.
