The Boston Red Sox announced plans Monday to celebrate 10-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion David Ortiz during his final weekend of the regular season.

The Red Sox face the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park from Friday, Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 2.

Throughout the weekend, the team will celebrate Big Papi's accomplishments on the field during his 14-year career in a Red Sox uniform and his leadership in the clubhouse and in the community -- both in New England and in the Dominican Republic.

In addition, the club will celebrate his clutch moments that helped bring three World Series championships to Boston.

During all three games, Red Sox players will wear a patch on their jerseys and caps in honor of Ortiz. The bases will also be adorned with a special logo throughout the weekend.

Ortiz announced his plans to retire on Nov. 18, 2015 -- his 40th birthday. The designated hitter is playing his 20th season in the majors.

Ortiz is having an outstanding final season and did it again on Sunday, hitting a three-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Red Sox a 10-8 lead and they went on to defeat the Blue Jays 11-8 in Toronto.

Ortiz hit the homer against reliever Joaquin Benoit. It was Benoit, then with the Detroit Tigers, who yielded a tying grand slam in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. The Red Sox won that game and eventually the ALCS and World Series.

"Just a dramatic home run once again from David against Benoit," Red Sox manager John Farrell said after the game. "A few years ago, there was another memorable one. This might not have been the same stage, but where we are, against that team, really no less important.

"David is such an integral part of this team, has been for a number of years. He's loved hitting in this ballpark (in Toronto) -- that speaks for itself. Today was a big moment for him as well. It was key for us. I think we're somewhat in awe of what David is doing in this final run."

The win gave the Red Sox a two-game lead over the Blue Jays in the AL East. The Red Sox returned to Fenway Park on Monday night to face the Baltimore Orioles, also two games back, with 20 games left on the schedule.
