KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry will be in the starting lineup for the Kansas City Chiefs when they host the San Diego Chargers to kick off the 2016 regular season Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium.

Berry missed all the offseason work and all but the last three days of the preseason due to contract considerations with his status as Kansas City's designated franchise player. He reported two weeks ago and was activated from the NFL exempt list on Saturday.

The Chiefs will be without running back Jamaal Charles, who continues to rehab the torn ACL that he suffered last October. The other inactive players named by the Chiefs were quarterback Tyler Bray, wide receiver De'Anthony Thomas, cornerbacks KeiVarae Russell and Kenneth Acker, tackle Bryan Witzmann and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches. A spot on the 53-man roster for Berry was created with the release of outside linebacker Dezman Moses.

The inactive players for the Chargers were safety Adrian Phillips, running back Andre Williams, center Max Tuerk, tackle Tyreek Burwell, guard Kenny Wiggins, wide receiver Isaiah Burse and nose tackle Ryan Carrethers.
