Former Southern California and Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian reportedly is on the verge of joining the coaching staff at Alabama, according to a Fox Sports analyst.

Sarkisian will be hired as a special offensive assistant on Tuesday, Clay Travis of Fox Sports reported.

Travis tweeted Saturday night: "Breaking news, for real: I'm told Alabama will announce former USC coach Steve Sarkisian as a special offensive assistant on Tuesday."

The apparent hiring comes after Alabama rolled to a 52-6 victory over USC on Saturday.

Sarkisian was fired as the Trojans' coach early last season due to drinking issues. He filed a wrongful termination lawsuit and later agreed to binding arbitration to settle the issue.

Lane Kiffin, another former USC head coach and close friend of Sarkisian, is the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator. Kiffin and Sarkisian were co-offensive coordinators at USC during Pete Carroll's stint as coach.

Sarkisian, 42, coached the Huskies to a 34-29 record from 2009-13, guiding the team to four bowl games in five seasons. His first USC team went 9-4 in 2014, including a Holiday Bowl win. He was fired with a 3-2 record last year, leaving his overall coaching record at 46-35.
