Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory's appeal of a 10-game suspension for another violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy remains ongoing.

Earlier reports Sunday indicated that Gregory had the punishment cut to four games. However, the four-game ban that the league announced Saturday was regarding a violation by Gregory in February. He potentially faces an additional 10-game suspension for a July violation.

The NFL has not yet provided the second-year pass rusher with official notice that his appeal of the longer ban succeeded, multiple media outlets reported. Agent Deryk Gilmore filed an appeal, but reportedly there was never an actual hearing on the matter.

Gregory's status for the 2016 season remains uncertain. The former Nebraska star was placed on the reserve/did not report list before training camp in July.

Gregory, 23, reportedly continues to receive in-patient treatment at a drug rehabilitation facility. He would be eligible to play Oct. 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals if he is only facing a four-game suspension.

Gregory entered the league's substance-abuse program after testing positive for marijuana at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. The Cowboys selected him late in the second round with the 60th overall pick. He played in 12 games last season and did not record a sack.
