The Philadelphia Eagles may start rookie quarterback Carson Wentz against the Cleveland Browns in the season opener if the No. 2 overall pick has recovered from his rib injury.

Wentz, if healthy, would get the start over veteran Chase Daniel on Sept. 11, sources told ESPN's Adam Caplan on Saturday.

The Eagles sent starter Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings in a blockbuster trade Saturday, giving Wentz a chance to step in immediately.

The Eagles will receive the Vikings' first-round draft pick in 2017 as well as a conditional fourth-rounder in 2018, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

With Bradford's exit, Daniel was expected to start the regular season with the backup being Wentz, who missed the last three preseason games after suffering a hairline rib fracture during the team's first preseason game Aug. 11.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson told reporters earlier this week that a CT scan revealed that one of Wentz's two ribs has healed, but the other is only at 60 percent.

Daniel, a former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, was signed by the Eagles to a deal worth $7 million annually this offseason. He has played in 55 NFL games, completing 50 of 77 career attempts for 464 yards, one touchdown and one interception in six-plus years.
