The Philadelphia Eagles thinned their depth at wide receiver by releasing Rueben Randle and Chris Givens.

The two were facing an uphill climb to the make the roster after the Eagles acquired Dorial Green-Beckham from Tennessee on Aug. 16. Jordan Matthews serves as the top wideout for Philadelphia, with former first-round draft pick Nelson Agholor, Josh Huff and Green-Beckham also in line for catches.

Randle signed a one-year contract with the Eagles after reeling in 57 receptions for 797 yards and eight touchdowns last season with the NFC East rival New York Giants. The 25-year-old didn't distinguish himself in the preseason, however, catching just three passes in three games.

Givens split his time last season with the then-St. Louis Rams and Baltimore Ravens. The 26-year-old had 20 receptions for 353 yards and one touchdown in 15 contests.

Randle and Givens were joined by cornerbacks Randall Evans and Denzel Rice, safety Nick Perry, defensive tackle Mike Martin, offensive lineman Andrew Gardner and long snapper John DePalma in being cut by the team on Sunday.
