Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu, working his way back from a torn ACL in Week 15 last season, has returned to the practice field.

The All-Pro practiced Sunday for the first time since the injury, participating in 11-on-11 drills with the first unit.

"I felt great," Mathieu said after the team wrapped up practice at University of Phoenix Stadium. "I got to get my wind back, but other than that, I felt great. I felt like I moved around pretty good."

The Honey Badger was activated from the physically unable to perform list last Tuesday.

"Coach (Bruce Arians) told me I was going to get a couple plays in and I thought about it and said, 'What are a couple of plays going to do for me?' So I pushed it a little bit," Mathieu said. "My coaches, they kind of let me do my thing."

Mathieu signed a five-year, $62.5 million deal earlier this month. Last season, the 24-year-old recorded 89 tackles, 17 defended passes and five interceptions -- including one returned for a touchdown.

"I didn't feel any pain. I didn't really get tight at all," Mathieu said Sunday. "I was surprised with where I was at, but I was also pleased with what I've been doing."
