Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart announced he will retire in July after a five-year stint at the school.
The decision by Hart, 67, comes two months after the university reached a $2.48 million settlement in a Title IX lawsuit over the handling of sexual assault complaints against athletes.
Eight women sued the school and claimed Tennessee created a "hostile sexual environment" due to is indifference over assault complaints against athletes.
"As I thought about finishing this job well and how extremely proud I am of what everyone in our department has contributed collectively to get us to where we are today, I decided that this was a good time to set a target to wrap up my career as a Director of Athletics," Hart said in a statement.
Among Hart's hires were football coach Butch Jones and women's basketball coach Holly Warlick - the latter to replace legendary Pat Summitt. Basketball hire Donnie Tyndall bombed and was fired after one season due to violations at former school Southern Mississippi and former Texas coach Rick Barnes was tabbed as his replacement.
Hart said he will analyze his options once his Tennessee tenure concludes.
"There will be another challenge out there," Hart said. "I plan to continue to assist and inspire people in some manner moving forward. Right now, I am excited about what this year has in store for us on Rocky Top."
