RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- An American trio stood tall, draped in their national flag Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro.
That trio included Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali, and Kristi Castlin, after they finished first, second and third in the women's 100-meter hurdles final. The accomplishment was the first time the United States women have ever swept the 100-meter hurdles.
Rollins ran 12.48 to capture the top prize. Ali turned in a 12.59 and Castlin clocked in at 12.61.
In men's basketball action, Team USA obliterated Argentina 105-78 in a Summer Games quarterfinal. The Americans will face Spain in Friday's semifinal. Kevin Durant scored 27 points in Wednesday's win. Paul George scored 17 points and had eight rebounds in the victory.
In Women's Beach Volleyball, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross of the United States came back from a set down to defeat Brazil for the bronze medal. Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst of Germany won gold.
The United States now has 94 total medals, nearly 40 medals more than second place China.
RUNDOWN IN RIO
The United States won a silver medal in equestrian team jumping Wednesday morning. France won the gold medal and Germany won a bronze medal in the event.
Haley Ruth Augello beat Jessica Blaszka of the Netherlands in a women's wrestling 48 kg 1/8 final. Augello then fell to Japan's Eri Tosaka in a 48 kg 1/4 final. She also lost to Kazakstan's Zhuldyz Eshimova in round two of women's 48-kg repechage wrestling.
Evan Jager won a silver medal for Team USA in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase final. Kenya's Conseslus Kipruto won the gold medal and France's Mahiedine Mekhissi won the bronze medal in the final.
Tianna Bartoletta and Brittney Reese won the gold and silver medals in the women's long jump final. Serbia's Ivana Spanovic won the bronze medal in the event.
The United States men's volleyball team beat Poland 3-0 in a quarterfinal matchup. Claresa Maria Shields beat Russia's Iaroslava Iakushina in a women's middle weight 69-75 kg quarterfinal.
Team USA's women's water polo team beat Hungary 14-10 in a semifinal matchup.
Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross edged Brazil's Larissa Franca Maestrini and Talita Rocha 2-1 in the women's beach volleyball bronze medal match.
American Tori Bowi won a bronze medal in the women's 200-meter final. Jamaica's Elaine Thompson and the Netherlands' Dafne Schippers won the gold and silver medals in the event.
On Thursday, Team USA faces Serbia at 6 p.m. in women's volleyball semifinal action. Shakur Stevenson faces Russia's Vladimir Nikitin in a men's bantam boxing 56 kg semifinal. The women's basketball team takes on France at 7 p.m. in a semifinal contest at Carioca Arena.
