The NFL reinstated San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Anthony Davis from the reserve/retired list Saturday.

The team added Davis to its 90-man roster and Davis reported to camp. To make room for Davis, the 49ers placed nose tackle Ian Williams on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Williams will miss the season after having ankle surgery this offseason.

Davis applied for reinstatement Monday.

Davis was taken No. 11 overall by the 49ers in the 2010 NFL Draft. He started all 71 games he played, including eight playoff games from 2010-14. He retired in June 2015.

Davis played collegiately at Rutgers, where he started 32 of 38 games he played.

The 26-year-old will battle for the starting right tackle spot. Others vying for that position include Erik Pears, Trent Brown, draft picks John Theus and Fahn Cooper, and CFL veteran Colin Kelly. Pears took most of the snaps in spring practice and Brown started the final two games of last season.

Davis was listed at 6-foot-5 and 323 pounds in 2014.

Williams (6-1, 305) signed with the 49ers in 2011 as an undrafted free agent. In five seasons, he started 26 of 31 games played and had 137 tackles, 2.0 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
