Seattle Mariners place Ketel Marte on DL with mononucleosis

The Seattle Mariners placed shortstop Ketel Marte on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with mononucleosis.

Marte, 22, complained of a sore throat following last Sunday's game. He didn't travel with the team for an eight-game road trip that began Friday at Toronto. The move is retroactive to July 20.

Marte is hitting .273 with 36 runs, 17 doubles, two triples, one home run and 19 RBIs. This is his second stint on the 15-day disabled list. He was out May 22-June 6 with a sprained left thumb.

The Mariners also recalled left-handed reliever David Rollins from Triple-A Tacoma. Rollins was available for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Rollins, 26, is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA over 6 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and six walks in eight relief appearances over three stints with the Mariners this season. He is 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA over 30 2/3 innings with 26 strikeouts and one walk in 24 games with Tacoma. In parts of two major league seasons with Seattle, Rollins is 1-2 with a 6.82 ERA over 31 2/3 innings with 26 strikeouts and 14 walks in 28 career games.
