Buffalo Bills running back Karlos Williams received a four-game suspension from the NFL on Friday for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Williams will be eligible to participate in offseason and preseason activities, but will miss the team's first four games of the upcoming season. The 23-year-old is eligible to return after Buffalo's contest versus the AFC East rival New England Patriots on Oct. 2.
"As an organization, we are disappointed that Karlos has put himself in this situation," the Bills said in a statement. "Poor decisions such as this affect not only the individual, but the entire Bills organization. We will continue to work with Karlos through the various player programs we provide to assist him in making better decisions moving forward."
Williams hadn't done himself any favors after attributing his weight gain at last month's minicamp due to his wife's pregnancy. The Buffalo News reported that Williams had showed up 20-25 pounds overweight.
Williams had 93 carries for 517 yards and seven touchdowns during his rookie season last year.
