Two-time major champion Angel Cabrera opened with a 6-under-par 65 and shared the first-round lead with Jhonattan Vegas in the Barbasol Championship on Thursday in Opelika, Ala.

Tied for second and one shot behind at 66 were Martin Laird, Blayne Barber, Ben Crane, Shawn Stefani, Matt Bettencourt, Michael Kim and Lucas Lee.

Cabrera, a 46-year-old Argentinian who won the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters, had an eagle on the par-5 13th hole after sinking a 60-foot putt from the fringe during his bogey-free round at Grand National's Lake Course.

The PGA Tour event is being played while many of the world's top players are competing in The Open Championship in Scotland this week.

Vegas, coincidentally, also eagled No. 13 but with a shorter 20-foot putt.

David Toms is the other major champion in the field. The 49-year-old opened with a 69.
