The New York Yankees designated first baseman Ike Davis for assignment Saturday.

New York needed to make room on the active roster for first baseman Mark Teixeira, who was coming off the 15-day disabled list.

Davis was 3-for-14 in eight games and said he was not surprised to be designated while also adding he would consider joining Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre if he clears waivers.

Teixeira started Saturday's game against the visiting Minnesota Twins. He was batting .180 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 167 at-bats this season.
