Stenson, 40, said he hopes to be ready to play by next weekend. The Quicken Loans National is the next PGA event from June 23-26 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

The seventh-ranked player in the world was 9-over after play was suspended for darkness Friday night. He shot a 1-under 69 in the first round and was 5-over on his front nine to open round two and had three bogeys and a double bogey on the back before withdrawing.

Stenson's best U.S. Open performance came in 2014, when he finished tied for fourth.

His best finish on the PGA Tour this season was a second-place finish at the Shell Houston Open on April 3. He is currently ranked 44th in the FedExCup standings (693 points).
