The deal is worth $21.6 million in new money and includes $9.5 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports.

Oher was signed through 2016 at a base salary of $2.35 million. With the extension, he is now under contract for $23.95 million through the 2019 season.

"We're very pleased," general manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement. "Michael came in here last year and fit in extremely well. He really had a solid year. He's in his prime right now and he's healthy. He's become a quality player for us."

In 2015, Oher's first season with the Panthers, he started all 16 regular-season games, opening holes for Carolina to lead the NFL with 142.6 yards per game. Oher's efforts helped Carolina win an NFC championship and set team records with an league-leading 500 points and 59 touchdowns.

"I'm very excited," Oher said. "I really can't wait to get to work. I don't want to let these guys down. They believe in me."

Oher signed a two-year deal worth $7 million last year after being released by the Tennessee Titans following an injury-plagued 2014 season.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Oher, the subject of the 2009 Oscar-winning movie "The Blind Side," recaptured the form that prompted the Baltimore Ravens to select him with the 23rd pick in the first round of 2009 NFL Draft.

"Love the organization," Oher said recently. "It's such a great organization. You wish you could be a part of this type stuff your whole career. You want to be a part of this type of team, the coaches. Great coaches. They help the players because they know everything. I believe in great coaches, and you want to be a part of it."

The 30-year-old Oher played five seasons in Baltimore, earning all-rookie honors in 2009 and helping the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII after the 2012 season.

The Titans signed him prior to the 2014 season and used him on the right side, where he has made 54 of his 107 career starts.

Oher's extension comes after the Panthers signed center Ryan Kalil to a two-year, $16.75 million deal last week.
