San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa didn't report to the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp on Tuesday due to a dispute over his rookie contract.
Bosa, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2016 NFL draft, is unsigned and negotiations are at a current impasse over what is known as offset money.
Bosa's representatives are requesting that Bosa's salary be guaranteed over four seasons, even if he is released before the length of the deal concludes. The Chargers are balking at that proposition and insisting on maintaining their rights to recover some of the money should Bosa be released.
The minicamp runs through Thursday. Bosa can't be fined for skipping it since he's unsigned.
Bosa, the former Ohio State star, is expected to boost the Chargers' pass rush once the two sides work through the contract issue.
