Oklahoma City Thunder standout point guard Russell Westbrook announced Friday that he is withdrawing from playing for the United States in the 2016 Olympics.

Westbrook is the seventh player who was part of the original 30-member player pool who won't be playing for the squad at the Games in Rio de Janeiro.

"After speaking with my family, I have decided to not participate in this year's Olympics," Westbrook said in a statement. "This was not an easy decision, as representing my country at the World Championships in 2010 and the Olympics in 2012 were career highlights for me. I look forward to future opportunities as a member of USA Basketball."

Two-time MVP Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is another NBA star who has announced he won't be playing. Out for health reasons are LaMarcus Aldridge (San Antonio Spurs), Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans), Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers), Chris Paul (Clippers) and John Wall (Washington Wizards).
