Copa America 2016: Brazil cruises, Ecuador ties Peru

Phillippe Coutinho scored a hat trick, and Brazil cruised a 7-1 win against overmatched Haiti in Group B play of Copa America on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.

Brazil, coming off a scoreless tie against Ecuador, would advance to the quarterfinals if it beats Peru on Sunday in Foxborough, Mass.

Renato Augusto added two goals for Brazil, and Gabriel and Luca Lima contributed one goal apiece. James Marcelin scored a 70th-minute goal for Haiti that sliced the deficit to 5-1.

The Haitians conclude group play with a match against Ecuador on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.

Ecuador 2, Peru 2

Ecuador erased an early two-goal deficit to tie Peru in a Group B game at Glendale, Ariz.

As a result, Brazil and Peru are each tied for first in the group with 1-1-0 records and four points. Ecuador sits in third place with two points after a pair of draws.

Christian Cueva and Edison Flores scored in the first 13 minutes for Peru, but Ecuador recovered behind goals from Enner Valencia in the 39th minute and Miller Bolanos in the 48th minute.

Ecuador defender Gabriel Achilier was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in second-half stoppage time.
