BALTIMORE -- Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Yordano Ventura and Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado were both ejected after they helped start a huge fifth-inning brawl during Tuesday night's game.

Machado jawed at Ventura in his previous at-bat, and the right-hander nailed him around the left hip/lower back with the first pitch when the shortstop came up in the fifth. Machado then threw off his helmet, raced to the mound and fired a hard right that appeared to hit Ventura's face.

Ventura, who had gotten rid of his cap and glove, then tackled Machado while both benches and bullpens emptied with lots of pushing and shoving for several minutes.

The umpires tossed both Machado and Ventura, and Baltimore's next two batters -- Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis -- answered back with home runs off Chien-Ming Wang to give the Orioles an 8-1 lead.
