Green Bay Packers tight end Jared Cook underwent foot surgery this week and will miss the rest of the offseason program, according to reports Friday.

The Packers hope Cook, the team's biggest offseason acquisition this year, will be back for training camp next month, multiple sources told ESPN.

According to ESPN, the surgery was described as preventative and something both Cook and the Packers wanted to take care of now.

Cook was not seen at practice on Thursday during organized team activities but coach Mike McCarthy does not provide updates on injuries or attendance during the voluntary sessions. Cook had participated in OTAs during the first week.

Cook, 29, came to Green Bay after three seasons with the Rams. He was released in February and the Packers gave him a one-year, $2.75 million contract in March. Cook signed with the Rams in 2013 as an unrestricted free agent after four seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

The 6-foot-5, 254-pound Cook had 142 receptions for 1,786 yards and eight touchdowns with the Rams, including 39 catches for 481 yards in 2015.

"Big target -- very, very athletic," McCarthy said last week after an OTA practice. "If you're just talking purely throwing the football and you've got big targets that can move like he does -- he's been an excellent addition. He's been everything we thought he would be."
