FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson is in the building. Sort of.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Wilkerson -- who has not reported to "voluntary" OTAs due to his displeasure with his contract situation -- has been seen at the Jets' complex in New Jersey. Bowles said Wilkerson has " ... been through to pick up some things" and that the two have exchanged pleasantries.

Wilkerson is expected to sit out until at least training camp in protest over the lack of a long-term deal from Jets. Wilkerson had the franchise tag -- which will pay him $15.7 million next year -- placed upon him on Feb. 29 and appears increasingly likely to play out the season before hitting free agency next spring.

Bowles said he hopes Wilkerson reports to training camp but did his best to strike a neutral tone when asked about the ongoing staredown between the defensive end and upper management.

"We want to come to an agreement -- we want to sign all our good players," Bowles said. "But that doesn't always work out. I'm not saying we are or aren't. Obviously you want to keep your good players around.

"But with the rules these days, they make it very hard after four or five years to keep your own. So we've got to try to finagle and find ways to do that and have enough money to try to do so."

--The Jets got their first look this week at new left tackle Ryan Clady, who saw some first-team reps at Wednesday's practice. Clady had yet to practice due to his ongoing recovery from a torn ACL he suffered last summer as a member of the Denver Broncos.

"It's good to see him," Bowles said. "He's been working out with the team. But to get him a couple reps, athletically, to get him used to what we're trying to do at full speed -- again, has been good to see."

The Jets acquired Clady from the Broncos on April 9, one day after D'Brickashaw Ferguson retired following a 10-year career in which he played every offensive snap but one.

--A pair of familiar faces were not practicing Wednesday. Cornerback Darrelle Revis continues to be sidelined as he recovers from wrist surgery. Center Nick Mangold, meanwhile, got what appeared to be a maintenance day as backup Dakota Dozier saw first-team snaps.

Mangold, the longest-tenured member of the Jets, is entering his 11th NFL season but missed one game last year with a neck injury and part of another one with a hand injury.

"We're still bringing him along slow," Bowles said.
