Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson, the 25th pick in the 2015 draft, was cited with driving left of the centerline in a head-on collision early Sunday morning that sent former Duke quarterback Anthony Boone to a Charlotte, N.C., hospital.

Boone suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. Thompson was not hurt and according to reports, alcohol was detected in his blood. A roadside test determined, Thompson's alcohol level was below the legal limit.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. Sunday. Thompson told police he dropped his cellphone when he reached down to pick it up and crossed the centerline.

Thompson was driving a 2016 Chevrolet SUV; Boone was driving a 2004 Lexus SUV, according to the police report.

Boone, reportedly, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a broken pelvis and several broken ribs.

The Panthers begin the next phase of offseason workouts on Tuesday and Thompson is expected to participate.

Boone was a member of the Detroit Lions after going undrafted in 2015. He was released and landed in the Canadian Football League with Montreal Alouettes.
