Dax McCarty scored in the third minute and the New York Red Bulls went to demolish New York City FC 7-0 on Saturday in a Major League Soccer matchup in Yankee Stadium.
The seven-goal rout matched the the largest victory margin in MLS history.
McCarty started the onslaught when he headed in a corner kick from Sacha Kljestan while unmarked in front of the goal.
The score stayed 1-0 until the end of the first half when Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two goals in succession. The second came on a bicycle kick in stoppage time to make it 3-0 at the half, giving him five goals in his last six games.
The Red Bulls (4-7-1) came out after halftime and continued to attack.
McCarty scored his second goal of the match in the 51st minute and Alex Muyl followed five minutes later with his first career goal, which Wright-Phillips helped set up.
The Red Bulls added insult to injury with goals by Gonzalo Veron in the 83rd minute and Gideon Baah in the 89th.
New York City (4-4-5) had a five-match unbeaten streak snapped while falling to 0-4 against the Red Bulls.
