Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus received a one-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Tuesday for his actions after an ejection during a game against the Minnesota Twins the previous night.

Ausmus' behavior was called "excessive" and "inappropriate" during the Tigers' 10-8 victory over the Minnesota Twins in Detroit.

MLB senior vice president Joe Garagiola Jr. also announced that Ausmus received an undisclosed fine.

Ausmus sat out Tuesday night's game against the Twins to serve the suspension. Bench coach Gene Lamont took over as acting manager.

During the fourth inning of Monday's game, Ausmus directed a profanity-filled verbal attack toward home-plate umpire Doug Eddings after a called third strike against Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos.

Ausmus proceeded to take off a sweatshirt and cover home plate in a demonstration of Eddings' interpretation of the strike zone.

After the game, Ausmus apologized for his behavior, saying he "unraveled."

"I certainly don't want any kids to hear it, but I wasn't going out there to be politically correct," Ausmus said.
