Sources told ESPN.com that the anticipated honor for Curry is scheduled to be announced in the next few days.
The defending champion Warriors return to Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday after Monday night's Game 4 in Portland against the Trail Blazers in the Western Conference semifinals.
Curry is recovering from a knee injury suffered two weeks ago and was upgraded to questionable for Monday's game.
Curry also could become the first unanimously chosen MVP in NBA history. Shaquille O'Neal and James each fell one vote shy of unanimous selection in 2000 and 2013, respectively.
Curry led the Warriors to a record-setting start to the season when they went 24-0 and went on to a 73-9 record that eclipsed the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' 72-10 record as the winningest single season in NBA history.
During the regular season, Curry led the NBA with an average of 30.1 points and shattered his own league record by sinking 402 3-pointers.
