Cincinnati Reds place Jay Bruce on paternity list

The Cincinnati Reds on Monday placed outfielder Jay Bruce on the paternity list. Right-handed pitcher Layne Somsen was recalled from Triple-A Louisville.

Bruce, who will miss the three-game series against the New York Mets, will rejoin the team on Friday in Pittsburgh. He is in Houston with his wife, Hannah, who is expecting the couple's first child.

He leads the Reds with 15 RBIs.

Somsen was Cincinnati's 22nd-round pick in 2013 out of South Dakota State University. He has never pitched in the majors. The 26-year-old has compiled a 1.04 ERA in five games at Triple-A this season.
