Brian Hoyer completes visit with Denver Broncos

Veteran free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer completed his visit with the Denver Broncos after talking to the New York Jets earlier in the week.

According to Pro Football Talk, Hoyer's current plan is to head home for a few days before talking some more with the Jets and Broncos.

Four or five other teams reportedly are interested in talking to the 30-year-old Hoyer.

Broncos executive vice president of football operations/general manager John Elway continues to keep his options open.

"We had a good visit," Elway said Thursday of Hoyer. "I think he's got another trip lined up. He's a possibility. He's a good football player. We wanted to have him in to get a chance to meet him and get to know him a little bit. Nothing to report there."

An offer is still on the table with the San Francisco 49ers for a trade involving quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Elway said.

After Peyton Manning retired and heir-apparent starter Brock Osweiler bolted to the Houston Texans, the Broncos acquired veteran Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles.

"First of all, we feel good with Mark. But you also know that there are going to be a lot of different things that happen," Elway said. "To be able to rush into a decision, we didn't want to have to do that, because if you rush into one and now all of a sudden here falls another apple over there that you kind of like. I didn't want to get us to where we were going down one road and didn't have the options to look at all the other, so that's why we've stayed patient."

Hoyer was released by Houston on Monday, becoming expendable when the Texans signed Osweiler and Brandon Weeden this offseason.

Hoyer spent just one season in Houston after playing the previous six seasons of his career for the New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns. He started in nine of 11 games in 2015 and passed for 19 touchdowns, seven interceptions and 2,606 yards.
