Former GM H.B. Richardson dies at 93

Former Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants general manager H.B. "Spec" Richardson died Tuesday at the age of 93.

Richardson passed away at his home in Columbus, Ga., due to natural causes.

Richardson served as Astros' general manager from 1967-75 before holding the same position with the Giants from 1976-80.

Richardson is best known for trading away future Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan. He traded Morgan to the Cincinnati Reds in 1971 in an eight-player trade that brought first baseman Lee May to Houston and Morgan went on to win back-to-back MVP awards as the Reds won consecutive titles in 1975-76.

With the Giants, Richardson traded seven players and cash to acquire Oakland pitcher Vida Blue.
