Novak Djokovic posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kei Nishikori on Sunday in a record-setting performance in the men's Miami Open final at Key Biscayne, Fla.
The top-seeded Djokovic won his 28th ATP Masters title to break the record he shared with Rafael Nadal. He also won his sixth Miami Open title to match Andre Agassi's tournament record.
"I'm obviously very proud of everything I have achieved and cherish every moment on the tennis court," Djokovic said in a post-match television interview.
Djokovic, from Serbia, needed just one hour, 26 minutes to win his third straight Miami Open title. He earned $1.03 million for the victory to raise his career earnings to $98,199,548, passing Roger Federer ($97,855,881) for most prize money in history.
The straight-set victory marked the sixth straight time Djokovic defeated the sixth-seeded Nishikori.
Nishikori's upset bid was sabotaged by committing 13 unforced errors in the first set. Nishikori, from Japan, won three straight games in the second set to take a 3-2 lead before Djokovic responded by winning the final four games of the match.
"The toughest thing about him is his great defense," Nishikori said. "It is very difficult to open up a space on the court."
