Ex-Ohio State Heisman winner Troy Smith arrested on DUI charge

Former Ohio State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was arrested and charged with drunk driving early Sunday morning in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.

According to the police report, Westerville Police started following Smith at 2:38 a.m. after an officer noticed his car did not have a front license plate. The officer said Smith was weaving in his lane and pulled him over.

Smith was given a breathalyzer test at the police station, according to the report, and registered a .143 blood-alcohol content. The legal limit is .08.

Officers also found two rolled cigarettes that contained marijuana in Smith's car, police said.

Smith, 31, has been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, possession of marijuana and improper display of a license plate.

Smith played for the Buckeyes under then-coach Jim Tressel from 2003 to 2006 and won the Heisman Trophy in his senior year. He was picked in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens and spent four years in the NFL from 2007 to 2010. He played parts of three seasons with the Ravens (14 games) and played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2010 (six games).
