The New England Patriots signed safety Patrick Chung to a one-year contract extension through the 2018 season, according to reports Friday.

The deal includes $5.7 million in new money over the next three years, ESPN reported. The deal reportedly includes a $2.4 million signing bonus.

Chung, a 2009 second-round pick of the Patriots, was the team's second-leading tackler last season with 85 tackles in 15 games.

Chung, 28, played his first four seasons in New England before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, reuniting him with his Oregon coach, Chip Kelly.

In 2014, Chung re-signed with the Patriots and then signed a new deal in 2015. He has appeared in 93 games over seven seasons-- six with New England -- and has recorded 468 tackles and three sacks.
