Djokovic, from Serbia, is seeking his sixth Miami Open title.

Djokovic will next face Tomas Berdych, who outlasted Richard Gasquet 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a two-hour, 28-minute match.

Berdych, seeded seventh, has reached the quarterfinals for the seventh time in 12 appearances at the Miami Open.

In a women's quarterfinal match, Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky ousted fifth-seeded Simona Halep of Romania 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The 19th-seeded Bacsinszky overcame a rough first set to win the match and move into the semifinals.

"I came back from a long road," Bacsinszky said during her on-court interview. "The first set was really tough. She's an awesome player and a great fighter.

"For the last year, she has also been an inspiration for me because I believe in hard work and she's one of the players who work really hard, so to be able to play that well against her and to catch the win is really amazing. I'm really happy with the win."
