The Sacramento Kings signed vice president of basketball operations and general manager Vlade Divac to a multiyear contract on Wednesday.

Divac moved into his current role last August after serving as vice president of basketball and franchise operations since March 2015. His NBA playing career included six seasons with the Kings.

"My commitment to the Sacramento Kings goes back to my days as a player and I'm grateful to continue playing my part in creating a winning future for the Sacramento Kings," Divac said. "I know that we have what it takes to be a successful franchise and I look forward to continuing to improve and build on the progress that we've made."

Reports indicate that the Kings plan to hire David Morway, a former assistant general manager with the Milwaukee Bucks, to help Divac with his GM duties. Morway also worked in the front office with the Indiana Pacers for 13 seasons.

The Kings have a 29-45 record this season and are going to miss the playoffs for a 10th consecutive year.

The season has been marked by turmoil surrounding coach George Karl and center DeMarcus Cousins. It's believed that Karl will be out at the end of the season, giving Divac the opportunity to put his own coaching hire in place.
